Go Live / Custom Domain

PropelAuth allows you to set up a custom domain to use as your Auth URL for your Staging and Prod environments.

To set up a custom domain, navigate to the Go Live page in your PropelAuth dashboard and follow the instructions.

Custom Domain Considerations

When verifying your domain, consider which URL you want your users to visit when logging into your app. For example:

  • If you want your users to visit "auth.your-domain.com" to login, you should verify the domain "your-domain.com".
  • If you want your users to visit "auth.app.your-domain.com" to login, you should verify the domain "app.your-domain.com".

If you would prefer that your Auth Domain is "auth.your-domain.com" and you would like your app to be located at "app.your-domain.com", you should verify the domain "your-domain.com" and update the Primary Subdomain in the Frontend Integration page to "app".

Go Live Troubleshooting

If you are running into an error when clicking the Verify DNS Settings button, make sure that you have correctly set up your DNS records as described in the Go Live / Custom Domain page.

It can also take some time for DNS changes to propagate, so if you are still seeing issues after verifying your DNS settings, try waiting a few minutes and then refreshing the page.

If you're using Cloudflare, make sure to temporarily disable the Proxied option for your DNS records before verifying them. Once you've verified the DNS settings, you can re-enable the Proxied option.

If you continue to experience issues, please reach out to support@propelauth.com.

Updating Your Custom Domain / Auth URL

You can update your existing Auth URL by navigating to the Go Live page and clicking the Switch Domain button.

Your Auth URL will not be updated until you have successfully verified your DNS settings.

Considerations when Switching Domains

There are a few things to keep in mind when switching domains:

  1. Make sure to update your Auth URL in your codebase.

  2. If you have any social login providers set up, make sure to update their redirect URLs to match your new Auth URL.

  3. If you have customers that use Enterprise SSO or SCIM, your customers will need to update their SSO and SCIM URLs within their IdP to match your new Auth URL.

Once your Auth URL is updated, your customers can view their new SSO and SCIM URLs via the Enterprise SSO Setup Guides.

Alternatively, you can ask your customer to update just the base domain of their existing SSO URL to match your new Auth URL. For example, if their current SSO URL is https://auth.old-domain.com/saml/abc123/metadata, they would update it to https://auth.new-domain.com/saml/abc123/metadata. Some IdPs such as Entra allow for multiple SSO URLs to be configured at the same time, allowing your customer to set both your old and new SSO URLs.
